Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate named for it's rose color (from the Greek word for rose-colored). Individual crystals have a beautiful rich rose color that is unforgettable. Most of the material on the market is banded with white or lighter pink due to its formation in stalactites and stalagmites as the manganese dissolved in groundwater and, combining with carbonates, dripped down through underground crevices, oftentimes creating concentric banding. First found in Romania in the early 19th century, it has now been found in many locations throughout the world, although there are some specific locations that are reknowned for excellent specimins, particularly the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado and Hotazel, South Africa, and major deposits were also found in Argentina within abandoned Inca silver mines. Overall, a fascinating stone.
Folklore/Metaphysical Properties: Rhodochrosite is most commonly known as a stone which best enhances, facilitates, attracts, and inspires love, particularly "perfect love" and love of self; aids in friendship; also helps to balance and regulate life's cycles and enhances conscious awareness
