Rainforest Jasper is actually a rhyolite and not technically "jasper". It derives its name from the colors, especially the deep mossy greens, which are reminiscent of a rainforest. Rhyolites are of volcanic origin consisting of quartz, feldspar, and other minerals that were present at the time of the volcanic eruption. Rainforest Jasper, because of its high quartz content, has been referred to as a jasper, specifically an "orbicular jasper" referring to the orbicular patterns (or "eyes"). These are caused from the silica (quartz) present in the rhyolite. These eyes could actually be considered technically to be jasper within the rhyolite base. Either way you choose to look at it, it is a fascinating stone.

Folklore/Metaphysical Properties: Used for: balancing feminine and masculine (yin/yang) energies; communication; facilitating resolution and perseverence. It can help to draw others into one's life.
