Owyhee Jasper actually is a general term for any of the many jaspers from Owyhee County, Idaho and the neighboring Malhuer County, Oregon, basically, the Owyhee Mountain area. It is sometimes called Owyhee Picture Jasper because the patterns are reminiscent of landscapes. The patterns are created as this sedimentary material forms in layers of clay, compressing each layer and creating the colored patterns. Some of the dendritic patterns are also caused by fossilized algae trapped within the stone as it forms.
Folklore/Metaphysical Properties: For obvious reasons, Picture Jasper is believed to aid in creativity and creative visualization; used as a grounding stone; facilitates harmony and balance.
