Covellite is a copper sulfide mineral named after the Italian mineralogist Niccola Covelli (1790-1829). More commonly collected by mineral collectors, it is rare in jewelry, but this does not diminish its alluring beauty. Although soft on the Mohs scale, it stands up well when cut and polished and set properly due to its perfect cleavage and dense nature. This deep indigo blue stone has a truly unique metallic luster, often with inclusions of pyrite which can create alluring patterns and a nice contract between the golden pyrite and the indigo covelite. Originally discovered in Vesuvian lava, it can be found in hydrothermal veins associated with other copper minerals.

Folklore/Metaphysical Properties: Considered a stone of transformation, can aid in psychic power; purifies body from radiation; communication renewal; helps to give strength, clarity and definition to the aura and build stronger auric energy boundaries.
