Color: Green-Blue but can vary widely from more blue to more green, often in the same specimen. When highly agatized in quartz, Chrysocolla is referred to as Gem Silica.
Transparency: Translucent to opaque
Notable Occurrences: Arizona, Utah, New Mexico and Pennsylvania, USA; Israel; Zaire and England.

Chrysocolla (also known as Gem Silica as a gemstone) is a blue-green member of the quartz family, but the color can vary widely from blue to more of a green, often in the same specimen. The rich, beautiful colors in chrysocolla are provided by the presence of copper. In it's pure state, chrysocolla is much too soft and fragile for use in jewelry, although specimins are often highly prized by mineral collectors. When chrysocolla is found "agatized" in quartz, the quartz creates a hardness which allows for a high polish and provides durability for ornamental use. Chrysocolla is generally found whereever copper deposits are mined, many very notably in the southwest United States. It is also found mixed with malachite and/or azurite.

Folklore/Metaphysical Properties: Chrysocolla is associated with tranquility, serenity, peace, subconscious wisdom, intuition, patience, nurturing, acceptance, tolerance, unconditional love, calmness, meditation, honesty, hope, intimacy, gentleness and sensitivity, creativity, awareness, and communication, aiding expression and comprehension of concepts and complexities. It is also said to aid in the discomforts of PMS for women. Promotes self-forgiveness and patience. The high conductivity draws out pain and heat such as fevers and arthritis.
