Amazonite is a gem quality variety of feldspar. Amazonite is made up of silicon, aluminium, potassium and oxygen and has a gentle blue-green color due to the presence of minute impurities of lead. Amazonite is opaque or slightly translucent with a waxy or glassy sheen and can sometimes display a schiller effect, where the sheen is predominant when viewed from a specific angle. Although not a very hard gemstone, it has been used widely for ornamental and decorative uses since ancient times. Although named after the Amazon river, prior to that, it's history actually can be traced back to extensive use by ancient Egyptians.

Folklore/Metaphysical Properties: Amazonite is reputed to have a calming effect, eliminate aggravation and dispell negative energy. It also is said to sooth all chakras; align and balance the physical and etheric bodies; balance male and female energies; dissipate energy blockages; balance metabolism; and help in the areas of calcium deficiency, osteoporosis, tooth decay and muscle spasms. Held to the third eye, Amazonite is said to unlock psychic vision.
